Bennington Battlefield will host a reenactment on August 13th and 14th. Patriot & Crown camps will be open to the public at 10:00 AM both days. On Saturday, August 13th at 3:00 visitors may observe the attack on the Dragoon Breastworks. That same evening at 7:00 there will be a repulse of the Crown’s reinforcements. On Sunday, August 13th Stark’s attack will begin at 11:00 AM followed by the attack on the Tory Fort at 2:00 PM.

Parking will be clearly marked and available across the river from the Barnett House, located at 30 Caretakers Rd., Hoosick Falls, NY.

Transportation will be offered on August 13th between the parking area and dragoon redoubt. Some walking will be required to observe the action on August 14th. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early. The program is free and open to the public.

Historian Robert Selig will deliver a lecture on Saturday, August 13 at 1:30 under the hilltop program tent prior to the attack on the Dragoon Breastworks.

On August 17th, 1777, men killed in battle littered the countryside from North Hoosick to the hillside where Colonel Baum had made his stand. Disposing of them, or not, sooner, or sometimes later, fell mostly to the civilian population, as was usually the case during the American War of Independence. Focusing on the disposal of the casualties of the Battle of Bennington and elsewhere, this talk addresses a rarely-covered and at times gory aspect of battles.

Local students will set up their own encampment on Sunday, August 14 under the command of HFCSD teacher Katie Brownell. The camp will be open to the public between 6:00 and 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 14th. These students have made a study of the Revolutionary War and know their stuff! Visitors are advised to be prepared to answer the sentries' challenge.

The Friends of the Bennington Battlefield and New York State Parks will host a commemoration marking the 245th anniversary of the Battle of Bennington on the hilltop. Representatives of the 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment, the Battle Monument in Vermont, as well as Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution chapters will help to mark the occasion. Historical accounts will be shared before a wreath-laying and artillery salute. The program will close with a rendition of a patriotic song popular in the 1770’s, “Chester.”
